Blacksburg, Virginia – Temperatures are climbing quickly across southwest Virginia today, with highs reaching into the upper 70s and low 80s as isolated storms threaten to develop later this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, today’s temperatures will run 5 to 10 degrees warmer than Monday, with the warmest conditions focused across the Piedmont, including Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Danville. Mountain communities such as Blacksburg and Wytheville will see slightly cooler highs in the 70s.

While much of the day will remain dry, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the western half of the region during the afternoon and evening hours. Coverage will remain limited, but any storm could produce brief downpours and lightning.

Travel impacts should be minimal, though drivers may encounter sudden wet roads in localized areas, especially along I-81 and U.S. 460. Residents spending time outdoors should remain alert for quickly changing conditions.

The warm pattern will continue into midweek, with additional chances for scattered storms returning in the coming days as the atmosphere becomes more active.
