Richmond has recorded 11.0 inches of snow this season, above normal levels.
According to the National Weather Service Eastern Region, Richmond, Virginia measured 11.0 inches of snowfall as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, compared to a normal 6.5 inches through the same date.
In Roanoke, 18.4 inches have been recorded this season, running above its typical mid-February total. Washington Dulles International Airport has measured 15.2 inches, also exceeding its seasonal average.
The regional update shows parts of the central and southern Mid-Atlantic trending above normal this winter, while some coastal areas remain closer to average.
The National Weather Service noted measurable snowfall has been observed at each primary reporting location included in the Eastern U.S. summary — an uncommon seasonal milestone.
For commuters, students, and road crews across Virginia, above-average snowfall has led to periodic travel slowdowns and multiple plowing operations during winter storm events.
The snowfall year runs from July 1 through June 30.
