RICHMOND, Va. – Cold, calm conditions will bring a widespread frost to much of central and eastern Virginia, the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore, and northeast North Carolina early Friday morning. The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Frost Advisory from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Friday, as temperatures dip to around 34 degrees, coldest in rural and sheltered inland areas.
According to the Weather Service, the advisory includes Dorchester, Wicomico, and Worcester counties in Maryland; Northampton, Hertford, Gates, and Bertie counties in North Carolina; and a large stretch of Virginia including Richmond, Dinwiddie, Brunswick, Sussex, Prince George, Surry, Isle of Wight, and Gloucester counties. Light winds and clear skies will promote ideal frost formation on exposed surfaces.
Residents across the I-95 and I-64 corridors, including Richmond, Hopewell, Suffolk, and Petersburg, are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and disconnect garden hoses before nightfall. Frost may also collect on car windshields and bridges, making early morning travel briefly slippery.
Sunshine will return by midmorning Friday with highs in the mid-50s, marking a crisp but pleasant end to the workweek. Temperatures will rebound over the weekend before another cool front brings a renewed chill early next week.
