VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A calm, clear start to the weekend won’t last long as a breezy coastal system approaches the Tidewater region early next week. Saturday begins mild and bright along the oceanfront, but rising winds and growing clouds hint that change is on the horizon for Monday’s commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a developing coastal disturbance will brush eastern Virginia late Sunday into Monday, bringing increasing cloud cover and gusty northeast winds. Rain chances rise through Monday afternoon, with the strongest gusts—up to 25 mph—expected along I-64, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, and open coastal routes. Drivers should be prepared for slick pavement and slower travel during peak hours, especially near the shoreline.

Temperatures will hold steady in the low 60s early in the week before dipping toward the upper 50s Tuesday. Rain remains possible through Tuesday morning, though rainfall totals appear light—less than a quarter inch for most locations. The north wind will keep conditions feeling cooler, with the first touch of that familiar late-fall bite by midweek.

By Wednesday, a second front may bring another round of scattered showers and breezy conditions before clearing resumes Thursday. Halloween Friday currently looks dry but brisk, with trick-or-treat temperatures likely in the mid-50s—perfect for a light jacket over costumes. Early November is expected to trend cooler, with hints of a winter-like chill building inland.
