Virginia Beach, VA – Virginia will enter early December with a fresh surge of Arctic air as an Arctic Blast spreads across the Mid-Atlantic from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, shifting the state into a noticeably colder Cold December pattern accompanied by light snow and flurry chances.

According to the National Weather Service, early-week disturbances will bring a mix of rain and snow showers to portions of the state, with the highest likelihood of snow occurring in western and mountainous regions Monday night into Tuesday. Central and eastern Virginia—including Virginia Beach—are expected to see mainly rain or brief rain/snow mixes, although isolated flurries cannot be ruled out as colder air moves in.

Temperatures will fall into the 20s for much of the state, with teens possible in the Appalachians and Shenandoah Valley. Breezy conditions will enhance the chill, making it feel considerably colder during the morning and evening hours.

NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook places Virginia in the below-normal temperature category for Dec. 1–5, reflecting a regional cold surge extending from the Northeast into the Mid-Atlantic. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, forecasters note the pattern may open the door for more active winter weather opportunities later in December.

Although no major storm is in the forecast at this time, residents should prepare for colder temperatures, occasional flurries, and isolated slick spots, particularly west of Richmond where temperatures will drop more sharply.
