Virginia residents waking up Wednesday can expect another windy, unsettled day along the coast, but calmer fall weather is on the horizon.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect through Thursday morning for Virginia Beach and nearby coastal communities. Winds from the northeast will continue at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 41 mph Wednesday. Dangerous rip currents and hazardous surf will pose risks to swimmers and boaters. Travelers should also anticipate challenging driving conditions on Interstate 264 and U.S. Route 60 near the shore.

Thursday will stay breezy, with gusts near 29 mph and highs in the upper 60s. However, by Friday, October 3, conditions begin to stabilize. Sunshine and highs in the low 70s are expected, offering a much-needed break after the blustery midweek weather.

The weekend forecast shows fall perfection. Saturday will be sunny with a high near 73, making it ideal for outdoor events or early Halloween decorating. Sunday stays mostly clear, with highs again in the low 70s.

Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday bring more sunshine and seasonably mild temperatures, ranging from the mid-70s during the day to the low 60s at night.

Residents are urged to avoid entering the ocean until surf conditions improve Friday. Drivers near the coast should keep both hands on the wheel, especially when crossing bridges and causeways.

With the first weekend of October arriving, Hampton Roads residents can expect clear skies, mild temperatures, and excellent weather for fall outings. From pumpkin patch visits to seaside walks, the shift to calmer weather will be welcomed after a windy start to the month.
