Charlottesville, VA – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of central Virginia, including Albemarle, Nelson, Orange, and Spotsylvania Counties, from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
Forecasters expect a mix of snow and freezing drizzle, producing 1 to 2 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice. With temperatures in the 20s, snow is expected to stick quickly to untreated roads and sidewalks, making Friday morning travel hazardous.
According to the advisory, a light snow will move across the region overnight, possibly forming narrow snow bands with localized heavier accumulation. As snow tapers off Friday morning, freezing drizzle may continue through midday, prolonging slick conditions.
Drivers are urged to reduce speed, use extra caution on bridges and overpasses, and allow extra travel time. Officials recommend checking 511Virginia.org for updated road conditions before heading out.
Conditions should gradually improve Friday evening as precipitation ends and road crews begin treatment efforts.
