According to the National Weather Service, a chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, with highs reaching near 89°F and calm winds picking up slightly. While the chance of precipitation is 40%, forecasters note that stronger cells could produce brief downpours and isolated lightning, especially in the New River Valley. US-460 travelers should be alert for sudden reduced visibility and slick roads late in the day.

Showers and storms are likely to continue into Saturday night, mainly before 8 p.m., before skies partially clear and temperatures drop to around 70°F. Sunday brings another wave of storms after 2 p.m., with a slightly higher 60% chance of rain, continuing through Sunday evening.
