Richmond, VA – A warm and sunny start to the week across Virginia will shift rapidly by midweek, with thunderstorms and cooler temperatures expected by Wednesday. Highs Monday will reach into the low 80s for much of the state, but residents should prepare for heavy rain and possible severe weather by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, dry conditions will hold through most of Tuesday before showers spread across the region Tuesday night. A few isolated strong to severe storms are possible Wednesday afternoon, particularly in southern and southeastern Virginia.

Cities like Richmond, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach could see highs drop into the mid-70s Wednesday, with northern areas like Fredericksburg and Louisa cooling further into the 60s. Rainfall may be locally heavy, and residents are urged to watch for ponding on roads and delayed commutes. The strongest storms could bring damaging wind gusts or hail.

By Thursday, storm chances linger, especially in the south, but conditions are expected to stabilize slightly. Temperatures will remain cooler into the weekend.

Warnings may be issued as the storm system develops. Residents should monitor updates and ensure devices are charged in case of power outages.
