Blacksburg, VA – A dramatic temperature swing is underway across southwest Virginia, with readings set to climb into the 80s by Sunday before dropping sharply early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, highs Thursday will range from 51 to 62 degrees, followed by a steady warmup into the upper 60s and low 70s Friday. By Saturday, temperatures climb further into the mid-60s to upper 70s across cities like Roanoke, Blacksburg, and Christiansburg.
The warmest day arrives Sunday, when highs are expected to peak between 72 and 83 degrees, marking the warmest stretch of the period. Dry conditions will dominate, allowing for ideal outdoor plans but also increasing fire risk across the region.
A cold front moves through late Sunday into Monday, bringing a sharp cooldown. Highs drop back into the 50s and 60s Monday, then fall further into the upper 40s to upper 50s by Tuesday.
Residents should prepare for rapid changes in temperature, dress in layers, and remain cautious with outdoor burning due to dry conditions. The temperature swing will continue into early next week as cooler air settles across the area.
