Richmond, VA – Scattered showers moving across Virginia this morning are expected to gradually shift south through the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield. Skies will begin to clear later today from northwest to southeast, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures across much of the state.
According to the NWS forecast issued early Wednesday, October 8, 2025, a cold front is pushing cooler and drier air into the region. Daytime highs will remain in the upper 60s to low 70s, while tonight’s lows are forecast to dip into the 40s and 50s.
Meteorologists say isolated thunderstorms may accompany the morning showers before conditions improve later in the day. By this evening, much of central and eastern Virginia should see clearing skies and calmer winds, setting up a crisp and cool night ahead.
The NWS urges residents to keep jackets handy and prepare for the cooler air mass settling in overnight. Thursday is expected to stay dry with seasonably mild temperatures.
