Virginia Beach, Va. – After scattered showers today, Virginia Beach residents will see breezy sunshine return Monday, September 8, as drier conditions settle in along the coast. The week ahead will bring gusty winds, limited rainfall, and cooler nights across Hampton Roads.
According to the National Weather Service, Sunday brings a 40 percent chance of showers mainly between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with highs near 75. By Monday, skies turn mostly sunny, but winds will increase out of the northeast at 17 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 28 mph. Tuesday stays breezy with highs near 75 and only a slight chance of afternoon showers.
Drivers on I-264, U.S. 58, and coastal bridges should use caution Monday and Tuesday, as strong gusts may create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles. Boaters and beachgoers are also urged to monitor marine conditions, with rough surf and rip currents possible as winds strengthen.
While scattered showers may return by midweek, NOAA’s 6–10 day precipitation outlook keeps much of Virginia leaning below normal for rainfall. That means most of the region will trend drier than average heading deeper into September, raising concerns for soil moisture and lawns.
The National Weather Service expects breezy, mostly sunny conditions to dominate much of the week, with any rainfall remaining light and spotty.
