Blacksburg, VA – Severe thunderstorms could rattle parts of southwest Virginia tonight before a sharp turnaround brings sun and calm to the region Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, storms will intensify after 3 p.m. Monday, with gusts near 20 mph and rain totals up to a quarter-inch. Stronger thunderstorms may produce locally heavier rainfall. Areas along U.S. Route 460, particularly near Virginia Tech, could see hazardous travel conditions from reduced visibility and wet roads late Monday night.
Storms are expected to peak between 6 p.m. and midnight, then clear out by early Tuesday. Temperatures will drop to the low 40s overnight before rebounding to a sunny high near 63°F on Tuesday. Winds will shift northwest around 8 mph, bringing a crisp and dry feel to the start of April.
