Richmond, Virginia – Damaging winds up to 60 mph and locally heavy rainfall could impact parts of Virginia late Tuesday, as strong to severe storms develop between 4 p.m. and midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the primary threat is from scattered storms capable of producing strong wind gusts, particularly across central and southeastern Virginia. Areas including Richmond, Farmville, and Wakefield are under a Level 2 Slight Risk for severe weather, meaning a few storms could become intense.
Winds may down trees and power lines, especially during evening commute hours. The hail and tornado risk remains very low, but brief localized flooding is possible in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Drivers are urged to delay travel during the evening hours if possible. Keep mobile devices charged and secure outdoor items ahead of incoming storms. Residents in the Level 1 Marginal Risk zone—stretching into parts of southern and western Virginia—should also remain weather-aware through the evening.
Storm coverage and intensity remain uncertain but could impact overnight plans. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
