Richmond, Va. – Scattered thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected to move across central and eastern Virginia from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, prompting a risk of isolated severe weather through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the storms will track from northwest to southeast and may contain hail up to the size of half dollars and damaging straight-line winds. While most storms will remain scattered, a few could intensify quickly, especially during peak heating this afternoon.
Cities including Richmond, Williamsburg, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach are in the marginal risk zone for severe weather. Breezy west winds of 25–30 mph are already developing and will persist through the day. Highs will range from the low 70s in coastal areas to near 80°F inland.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms, and monitor alerts in case warnings are issued. Power outages are possible in areas that experience stronger cells.
Storm activity is expected to weaken after 8 p.m., but additional updates may be issued if conditions evolve. Stay tuned to local weather channels and emergency alerts for the latest information.
