Annandale, VA – Travelers planning post-Christmas trips in Virginia should prepare for wet conditions as rain moves into the area Friday night. A warm front will bring widespread showers and isolated storms by Sunday, potentially creating hazardous driving conditions along major routes, including I-95.
According to the National Weather Service, light rain may start after midnight Friday, increasing in intensity Saturday with a 70% chance of precipitation. The heaviest showers are forecast Sunday, with a high near 63°F. Drivers should exercise caution, as water accumulation on roadways may reduce visibility and increase stopping distances.
Temperatures will rise into the mid-40s Friday before peaking in the upper 60s Sunday. Cooler conditions return Monday, with highs in the upper 50s. Saturday night lows will remain above freezing at 49°F, reducing the chance of icy surfaces.
By Monday, scattered showers will taper off by the afternoon. Travelers heading out early should plan for possible delays and pack rain gear. Local residents are urged to clear storm drains ahead of the rain to prevent localized flooding.
The extended forecast predicts drier conditions for New Year’s Eve celebrations, with daytime highs near 53°F under partly sunny skies.
