Blacksburg, VA – Fog and drizzle are expected to linger across southwest Virginia tonight, with forecasters warning of a soggy weekend ahead for much of the region.

According to the US National Weather Service in Blacksburg, low temperatures will dip into the mid-40s in the mountains and near 60 in the Piedmont. A significant warm-up is forecast through Friday, with high temperatures reaching into the 80s across much of the area.

Isolated morning showers and afternoon thunderstorms are possible Thursday and Friday, particularly along the Blue Ridge. A stronger system moves in over the weekend, bringing a 60 to 90 percent chance of widespread rain and thunderstorms on Sunday, with the wet weather continuing into Monday.

The mountains are expected to see high temperatures drop from the low 80s on Saturday to the mid-40s by Monday. Winds will increase early next week as cooler air arrives behind the front. In the Piedmont, temperatures may reach the upper 80s Saturday before falling back into the 60s on Monday.

Travelers and residents are advised to monitor weather updates, especially with thunderstorms forecast and the possibility of gusty winds early next week. Motorists in fog-prone areas, particularly along the Blue Ridge, should use extra caution tonight.
