Blacksburg, VA – Winter conditions are settling into western Virginia today, with snow showers, gusty winds, and dangerous wind chills expected through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg.
Highs will struggle to reach the 20s and 30s in the mountains and 40s across the Piedmont. Upslope snow showers will persist through the day, increasing in coverage tonight. A dusting to light accumulation is possible anywhere west of the Blue Ridge, with flurries reaching parts of the Piedmont.
Tonight, temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s, accompanied by northwest wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Wind chills are forecast to fall into the single digits west of the Blue Ridge, and may dip below zero in the highest elevations by early Tuesday.
Forecasters urge travelers and outdoor workers to use caution, bundle up, and secure loose objects. Wind chills near –5°F are possible on higher peaks.
Conditions will slowly improve Tuesday, but cold air will remain entrenched across the region through midweek.
