Virginia Weather Alert: Monday Showers in Virginia Beach to Disrupt Travel Ahead of Juneteenth

Virginia Beach, VA – Rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to complicate travel and outdoor plans across the Hampton Roads area to start the workweek. Residents can expect continued unsettled weather on Monday before conditions begin to improve midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist throughout the day on Monday. The highest potential for rain is expected before 2 p.m., followed by another chance of storms after 5 p.m. New rainfall amounts are expected to remain less than a tenth of an inch, though higher totals are possible within any thunderstorms that develop. Drivers along I-264 and the Virginia Beach Expressway should remain alert for sudden downpours and slick road conditions during the commute.

The pattern of scattered showers begins Sunday, with a 70% probability of rain throughout the day and a low temperature around 71 degrees. Conditions will remain mostly cloudy, keeping temperatures slightly cooler.

Heading into the week, the wet weather finally begins to move out by Tuesday night. Tuesday will still see a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 2 p.m., with a high near 84.

Looking ahead to the Juneteenth holiday, Virginians can anticipate a much more pleasant forecast. Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 91. The favorable weather continues through Thursday, which is set to be partly cloudy with a high near 92, offering excellent conditions for any outdoor celebrations. Friday will bring a mix of sun and clouds with a high near 90.
