Blacksburg, VA – Light rain and freezing rain will taper off by late morning as a cold front moves out. Quiet weather follows, with temperatures rising into the 40s west of the Blue Ridge and 50s in the Piedmont. This warming will cause ice and snow to begin melting.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s overnight. This sharp drop will cause any melting snow or ice to refreeze. Ice falling from trees could also create additional hazards on roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Officials warn drivers to expect slick conditions Friday morning. Black ice could form on shaded roads and less-traveled areas. Commuters should allow extra travel time and use caution.
The weather will remain cold heading into the weekend, but Friday brings dry conditions. Warmer temperatures could return next week. Stay updated on changing conditions and travel safely.
