Richmond, VA – A heat advisory is in effect today for the I-95 corridor, excluding the Maryland beaches and Outer Banks Currituck. The National Weather Service in Wakefield issued the advisory early this morning, warning residents of potentially dangerous heat and humidity levels.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to peak on Friday, with heat indices reaching up to 107 degrees in some areas. Saturday will remain very humid, with temperatures still in the high 90s. The advisory states that coverage of afternoon and early evening showers will be limited today but will gradually increase from Friday through Sunday. The main threats from any thunderstorms will be heavy rain and damaging wind gusts.
Residents are urged to take precautionary measures, such as staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable populations like the elderly and young children. Local authorities are on alert, ready to respond to heat-related emergencies.
The extended forecast for the region includes a mix of sun and clouds on Friday with temperatures reaching 94 degrees. Saturday and Sunday will see a 45% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs of 91 and 86 degrees, respectively. The weather will slightly cool down at the beginning of next week, with temperatures expected to be in the lower 90s on Monday and Tuesday, and around 81 degrees by Wednesday.
