Blacksburg, Va. – Humid air lingers across Virginia this Sunday, with morning fog and hazy skies giving way to partly cloudy conditions. Temperatures will reach the mid-80s to lower 90s across much of the state, with only isolated showers possible north of I-81 this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, rain chances increase Monday as a cold front sinks southward. The boundary will bring scattered showers and storms across western and central Virginia, keeping highs in the lower 80s to near 90. Drivers along I-81 and U.S. 460 could encounter slick roads during the evening commute.

By Tuesday, widespread showers are expected to develop, especially in the New River and Roanoke valleys, with temperatures cooling slightly into the upper 80s. Lingering humidity will make conditions uncomfortable, and residents should prepare for possible heavier rainfall in localized areas.

Travelers are advised to keep an umbrella handy, avoid flooded roadways, and allow extra time on commutes as the wet pattern sets in. The National Weather Service warns precipitation chances will steadily rise through midweek as the front stalls over the region.
