Richmond, Va. – Mild weather across Virginia on Sunday will give way to a soggy start to the workweek as showers and thunderstorms bring the threat of localized flooding through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, increasing clouds Sunday will lead to overnight showers, mainly across Southside Virginia. By Monday, widespread rain is expected, with locally heavy downpours possible overnight into Tuesday. Urban and low-lying areas could see flooding, particularly in cities like Norfolk, Richmond, and Virginia Beach.

Monday’s high temperatures will hover in the low 70s with steady rain developing throughout the day. Tuesday brings a higher chance of thunderstorms across eastern Virginia, increasing the potential for hazardous travel conditions on I-64, U.S. 460, and other major routes. Commuters should plan for delays and reduced visibility.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Power outages can’t be ruled out in areas hit hardest by storms Tuesday afternoon.

Rain is expected to linger into Wednesday with scattered thunderstorms likely. Additional weather statements may be issued as conditions evolve.
