Virginia Beach, VA – High temperatures and rising humidity will grip Virginia Beach on Monday, July 21, with afternoon storms posing a risk to commuters and beachgoers.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, daytime highs will reach 86°F on Monday, with a heat index near 102°F by early afternoon. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after 2 p.m., continuing into the evening hours. Winds will shift from the north around 13 mph. Localized downpours and gusty conditions could affect coastal routes, including U.S. Route 60 and Shore Drive.

Drivers should stay alert for wet pavement and brief visibility drops during the evening commute. The NWS notes that another round of spotty showers is possible between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Monday night. Though precipitation chances remain low (20%), it’s the first real thunderstorm risk since the recent dry stretch.

Tuesday brings relief, with sunny skies and a high near 83°F. Drier air returns midweek, making for an ideal stretch of summer weather — but heat will rebound heading into the weekend.
