Virginia Beach, VA – A Freeze Warning is in effect across central, eastern, and southeast Virginia through 9 a.m. Tuesday, as temperatures drop into the upper 20s inland and low 30s near the coast, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

The warning includes Richmond, Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and portions of northeast North Carolina, marking one of the coldest nights so far this season. Sub-freezing temperatures could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and burst unprotected outdoor pipes.

Forecasters say the cold air will settle in late Monday night under mostly clear skies and brisk northwest winds. Inland areas are expected to see the sharpest drop, with lows near 27°F, while coastal communities stay just above freezing.

Residents are advised to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and drain or wrap exposed pipes. The National Weather Service urges homeowners to allow a slow drip from indoor faucets overnight to prevent freezing.

Warmer conditions are expected by midweek, with highs rebounding into the upper 50s by Thursday.
