Richmond, VA – Drivers across central and eastern Virginia are being advised to use caution tonight as freezing fog is expected to develop after midnight, followed by a chance for light snow Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

Forecasters say there is high confidence in subfreezing temperatures overnight, but only moderate confidence that fog will form. If it does, the NWS warns it could lead to a light glaze of ice on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads between midnight and 9 a.m. Sunday. The greatest risk extends from Richmond to Charlottesville and Farmville, with visibility potentially dropping below a quarter-mile.

By Monday, a cold front moving through the region could produce light snow accumulation, especially across central and southern Virginia. The probability for at least half an inch of snow is now 30–60%, with the highest chances near Richmond, Roanoke Rapids, and Charlottesville.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, slick spots and reduced visibility could again affect travel Monday morning. The weather service urges residents to stay tuned for forecast updates, as probabilities could increase as the system approaches.
