Virginia Beach, Va. – Drivers along I-264 and Shore Drive should watch for water pooling tonight as a Flood Watch remains in effect until late Friday. The National Weather Service warns that heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding in low-lying areas and near poor drainage spots.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, scattered thunderstorms will continue this evening, producing locally heavy rain. The Flood Watch includes southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways, especially in areas prone to rapid water rise.
Saturday will bring another round of scattered showers and storms, mainly after 2 p.m., with highs near 81 degrees. Winds will shift to the northeast, providing slightly cooler and less humid air by evening. While severe weather is not expected, brief downpours could cause minor street flooding.
Sunday and Monday look mostly sunny and dry, with highs in the low 80s, before storm chances return midweek. Beachgoers should still use caution Saturday, as rip currents remain possible due to shifting winds.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates through the weekend. Additional watches or warnings could be issued if rainfall totals increase overnight.
