Blacksburg, VA – A strong cold front is keeping temperatures well below average across southwestern Virginia through Saturday morning, with overnight lows expected to dip into the low teens. Residents in Blacksburg and surrounding areas should prepare for frigid conditions before a gradual warming trend begins this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures today will struggle to reach 30°F, while tonight’s low is forecast around 13°F. Mountain regions will face even harsher conditions, with temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees colder than normal. Icy patches may develop overnight, particularly along U.S. 460 and other elevated roads.

Saturday offers a sunny respite, with highs nearing 39°F, though residents should still dress warmly and remain cautious on shaded roads where ice may persist. Saturday night will remain chilly, with lows around 25°F and calm winds.

By Sunday, temperatures will begin to recover, reaching a high of 41°F under partly sunny skies. The trend continues into next week, with highs in the mid-40s to near 50°F by Tuesday.

For now, the National Weather Service recommends limiting outdoor exposure during peak cold hours and keeping emergency supplies in vehicles for overnight travel. Stay updated on conditions through the weekend as roads may remain slick during the mornings.
