Richmond, VA – A fast-moving cold front will bring a line of gusty showers and strong winds to eastern and central Virginia late Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
The main window for the strongest activity will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., when wind gusts up to 40 mph will be widespread, and localized gusts up to 50–60 mph are possible. The front will move east at 40–50 mph, bringing brief downpours and rapidly changing conditions.
While the risk for tornadoes remains low, forecasters note that the combination of strong winds and wet roads could make for hazardous travel, especially for high-profile vehicles and those driving on bridges or overpasses.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid travel during peak gusts, and stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Conditions will improve early Monday morning as cooler, drier air settles into the region.
