Virginia Beach, Va. – Drivers in Virginia Beach face dangerous flooding along Shore Drive Tuesday night into Wednesday as strong northeast winds push water inland. Low-lying roads may close during high tide, and travel could be treacherous until waters recede.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through 2 p.m. Wednesday. Winds will range from 20 to 30 mph with gusts topping 35 mph, bringing dangerous rip currents, rough surf, and beach erosion.

Tidal flooding is expected in the most vulnerable spots, including sections of Shore Drive, Great Neck Road, and areas near Lynnhaven Inlet. Motorists should avoid driving through standing water and use alternate routes if roads become blocked. Emergency crews advise giving extra time for travel.

Beachgoers face another layer of risk. Rip currents remain high, and swimming is not recommended until conditions improve. Residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for additional alerts if tides rise further than predicted.

Looking beyond midweek, conditions improve with calmer winds and drier weather by Thursday. Sunshine will dominate late week, bringing a break from the stormy pattern before another round of unsettled weather may return early next week.
