Richmond, Virginia – Cloudy skies and cooler-than-average temperatures are offering a brief reprieve across central and eastern Virginia Thursday, but southeastern areas should prepare for a soggy and potentially disruptive evening. Temperatures are holding steady in the upper 70s to low 80s, with breezy conditions already developing near the coast.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the best chance of rain showers will be concentrated in the southeastern part of the state, including cities like Norfolk, Franklin, and Elizabeth City. Coastal Flood Statements have been issued for later tonight, with nuisance to minor flooding expected along tidal areas. Winds may increase near the coastline, especially along the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic shore.
Areas like Richmond, Petersburg, and Tappahannock will likely stay dry but cloudy through the day, while cities farther south like Emporia and Windsor could see scattered showers by this evening. Drivers near the coast should use caution on roads with tidal flooding and avoid parking near low-lying shorelines.
Conditions should begin to settle Friday morning, but additional flood advisories are possible depending on tide cycles and rainfall amounts.
