VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sunshine returns strong across coastal Virginia as the first full week of October unfolds, bringing bright skies, warm afternoons, and a brief midweek rain threat. After a cool, calm start Sunday, daytime highs will rise into the mid-70s through Tuesday, ideal for fall festivals, leaf viewing, and Halloween prep around Hampton Roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a persistent ridge of high pressure will keep skies clear through early Tuesday, with light southeast winds and pleasant evenings. Drivers along U.S. 13 and I-264 should enjoy dry, smooth commutes through midweek before a weak front moves in Wednesday. That system could bring scattered showers and gustier winds, briefly dampening local outdoor plans.

By Wednesday afternoon, the chance of rain increases to around 50%, tapering off by Thursday morning as drier, cooler air filters back in. Thursday’s highs will dip back into the upper 60s, signaling the first real taste of classic October air.

Residents are encouraged to check drainage areas, secure light decorations, and monitor local updates for changing road conditions during Wednesday’s rain window. Farmers’ markets and outdoor events early in the week will benefit from dry air and seasonable warmth before the shift midweek.

Fall colors are beginning to deepen inland, offering good early foliage viewing along Route 58 and the Great Dismal Swamp trails by late week.
