Blacksburg drivers may face slick patches overnight as scattered showers linger into Wednesday before sunshine returns across southwest Virginia. Travelers on U.S. 460 and I-81 should plan for wet pavement and reduced visibility through early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, light rain could continue after midnight with the best chance before 4 a.m. Wednesday. The agency expects another round of isolated showers late Wednesday, but most areas will remain dry. Rainfall totals should stay under a tenth of an inch, though wet roads could cause minor delays for morning commuters.

Temperatures will stay mild, with lows around 56 degrees tonight and highs near 72 on Wednesday. Winds remain light, shifting northwest by late Wednesday. Conditions improve dramatically starting Thursday, when skies clear and temperatures rise into the low 80s.

By Friday, sunshine dominates with a high of 83, offering an early taste of fall warmth for Virginia Tech’s campus and surrounding communities. Outdoor plans this weekend should go uninterrupted, as skies stay mostly sunny through Sunday.

Residents should keep umbrellas handy for Wednesday, but travel impacts look minimal compared to earlier storms this month. The bigger story is the warming trend through the weekend, which could push afternoon highs into the upper 70s and low 80s.

More updates will be issued if additional rainfall develops, but current guidance shows a stretch of dry weather lasting into early next week.
