Blacksburg, VA – Steady showers and unseasonably cool temperatures are expected to linger across Southwest Virginia through the end of the week, with an 80% chance of rain and a low risk of flooding forecasted by Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, an upper-level low will bring repeated rounds of rain from Thursday through Saturday. The heaviest precipitation is anticipated Friday, with cooler highs in the 50s and a possibility of localized flooding, particularly west of Interstate 77. Lingering showers Thursday night will give way to continued rain Friday before gradually tapering off by Saturday.
The NWS noted that although thunderstorms are unlikely, isolated rumbles may occur Thursday west of I-77. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s, keeping temperatures below seasonal averages for April.
Residents should monitor local weather alerts and avoid low-lying areas prone to minor flooding. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds during rainfall and watch for water accumulation on roadways.
By Saturday, rain chances fall to 30%, with breezy conditions expected. Despite the clearing trend, the weekend will remain cooler than normal.
