Norfolk, VA – A rapid warmup is underway across eastern Virginia, but rising temperatures and dry air could quickly elevate fire concerns as early as Tuesday afternoon under a statewide burn ban just to the south in North Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, quiet and dry conditions will hold through today with highs in the lower 60s. Temperatures will climb steadily into the lower 70s Monday and reach the lower 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday, with afternoon breezes developing each day.

Across Hampton Roads and inland areas including Richmond and Williamsburg, the combination of warming temperatures and periodic wind gusts could dry out vegetation, increasing the risk of fire spread. While Virginia has not issued a statewide ban, officials highlight heightened caution as North Carolina enforces a full burn ban due to similar conditions.

Drivers along I-64 and I-95 should remain alert for gusty winds, especially during the afternoon hours. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure potential ignition sources, and follow local guidance.

Rain chances return later in the week, which may help reduce fire risk. Until then, dry and warming conditions will persist, and additional advisories could be issued if fire danger increases.
