Williamsburg, VA – Black ice and wind-driven snow are creating slick roadways across eastern Virginia, with gusts up to 45 mph reducing visibility on the Eastern Shore through early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, Lancaster, Gloucester, Middlesex, Mathews, King and Queen, Essex, James City and York counties. Farther east, the advisory continues until 1 p.m. for Accomack and Northampton counties, where a Blizzard Warning has been cancelled but blowing snow remains a concern.

Up to a half inch of additional snow is expected across the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and the Williamsburg area. Winds may gust to 35 mph inland and up to 45 mph along the Eastern Shore.

In Williamsburg and Yorktown, bridges and overpasses along I-64 could remain icy through mid-morning. Across Gloucester and Middlesex counties, patchy blowing snow may briefly lower visibility on open stretches.

On the Eastern Shore, including Onancock and Cape Charles, stronger wind gusts could snap small tree limbs and create drifting snow across Route 13.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check 511 for updated road conditions. Advisories remain in effect through 10 a.m. inland and until 1 p.m. on the Eastern Shore.
