Virginia – A sharp, frosty chill grips Blacksburg this morning, with temperatures near 24°F and a thin glaze of frost clinging to grass, rooftops, and colder pavement.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, calm winds and clear breaks allowed temperatures to fall well below freezing early, creating patchy frost and isolated slick spots. While widespread ice is not expected, bridges and shaded roads may briefly turn slippery during the early hours.

Across Montgomery County, drivers along US-460 and Route 11 should stay alert for cold pavement, especially in valleys where temperatures dipped fastest. Side streets and elevated surfaces cool more quickly, increasing the risk for minor traction issues. Allow extra time and ease into braking this morning.

Conditions improve quickly by midday as sunshine returns and temperatures climb into the low 40s. The warming trend accelerates into Thursday, with highs reaching the mid-50s under mostly cloudy skies. By Friday, Blacksburg jumps to near 64°F, signaling a strong push toward spring warmth.

Friday night introduces a slight shift. A 30% chance of showers develops, which could leave roads damp into early Saturday. No severe impacts are expected, but wet pavement may slow late travel.

The weekend delivers the biggest change. Saturday reaches near 70°F with partial sunshine, followed by a jump to 74°F Sunday under mostly sunny skies. That rapid thaw after cold mornings may lead to minor “flash freeze” concerns in shaded areas if moisture lingers after sunset.

Looking ahead, temperatures remain mild into early next week, with additional shower chances returning.

Five Day Outlook for Blacksburg, Virginia:
Thursday: High 56°F – Mostly cloudy
Friday: High 64°F – Partly sunny
Saturday: High 70°F – Mild and dry
Sunday: High 74°F – Mostly sunny
Monday: High 57°F – Cooler with clouds
