Wakefield, Virginia – Snow will begin spreading across central Virginia by early Sunday afternoon, setting up slick roads and hazardous bridges ahead of the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday for Goochland, Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Charles City and surrounding counties, including the city of Richmond and the Tri-Cities area. Total snowfall up to 2 inches is expected.
Light snow developing Sunday afternoon and continuing at times into Monday could cause untreated roads to become slippery. Major corridors such as I-95, I-64 and Route 288 may see slick stretches overnight into early Monday, especially on elevated roadways and overpasses. Both the Monday morning and evening commutes could be affected as temperatures remain near freezing.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check Virginia 511 for updated road conditions before heading out. Residents should prepare for changing road conditions, particularly after sunset.
Snow tapers toward Monday evening, but patchy slick spots may linger beyond 7 p.m. as colder air settles over the region. Additional updates may be issued if snowfall totals increase.
