Baltimore, MD – Residents across central and northeastern Maryland, along with portions of extreme northern Virginia, should prepare for slippery conditions as snow moves into the region tonight and continues into Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for multiple counties beginning this evening. Forecasts call for 1 to 3 inches of snowfall, with isolated higher totals possible in northeastern Maryland, particularly north and east of Baltimore.
The advisory area includes Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County, and surrounding communities, as well as parts of extreme northern Virginia. The highest impacts are expected overnight, when snowfall rates could briefly increase and temperatures remain near or below freezing.
While snowfall totals are considered moderate, road conditions could deteriorate quickly, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and elevated roadways. Early Sunday commuters, overnight workers, and emergency responders may encounter slick spots through the morning hours.
The National Weather Service notes that snow should taper off by Sunday morning, though lingering cold temperatures may allow icy patches to persist into the late morning, particularly in shaded or rural areas.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Residents should also check local school districts, transit agencies, and municipal updates for any delays or service adjustments.
Weather conditions will continue to be monitored, and advisories may be adjusted if snowfall amounts increase or shift geographically.
