Blacksburg, Va. – Showers and isolated thunderstorms will sweep across western and southwestern Virginia Monday evening, with storms likely to arrive in Roanoke by 5 p.m. and Blacksburg by 8 p.m. Light rainfall and occasional thunder may persist through midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the showers are moving ahead of a cold front and will primarily affect mountain regions, where the probability of precipitation is highest. Storms will spread eastward into central Virginia by late evening.

Communities along I-81, including Christiansburg, Wytheville, and Lexington, should expect brief downpours, gusty winds, and occasional lightning. Rainfall totals are expected to remain under 0.10 inches for most areas, though isolated heavier bursts may occur near elevated terrain.

Travelers should remain alert for slick roads during the evening commute and watch for low visibility in heavier showers. While severe weather is not expected, thunderstorm development could linger into the early overnight hours.

The cold front will clear the region by early Tuesday morning. Additional weather updates will be issued if stronger storm activity develops.
