Virginia Summer Weather Alert: Thunderstorms Hit Virginia Beach by Friday Afternoon

Virginia Beach, VA – Storms could arrive by Friday afternoon across Virginia Beach as heat and humidity push the index past 100°, creating potentially dangerous summer weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a heat advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday, with temperatures staying near 90°F into the weekend. By 2 p.m. Friday, a slight chance of thunderstorms will develop, followed by a second round of possible showers Friday night after 11 p.m.

Travelers should prepare for brief but heavy downpours and reduced visibility, especially along Interstate 264 and surface roads through the Oceanfront and Oceana Naval Air Station corridor. Southwest winds may gust up to 19 mph Friday night, increasing the storm risk.

Saturday clears out with abundant sun and a high of 91°F, but muggy conditions will stick around. Sunday and Monday stay dry and hot, both days expected to reach around 90°F. Rain chances return Sunday night into Tuesday, with 40–50% chances of scattered thunderstorms and evening showers.

Storm chances rise again Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing a 50% chance of thunderstorms and temperatures in the upper 80s.
