Richmond, VA – Severe thunderstorms capable of producing isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail are expected across Virginia from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday as a strong cold front pushes through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a line of storms will move west to east late this afternoon and evening, triggering threats that include wind gusts up to 65 mph, hail up to ping-pong ball size, and localized flooding. Much of the state is under a Level 2 (Slight) risk for severe weather, with enhanced activity possible near the I-95 corridor and coastal areas.

Cities including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Petersburg are likely to experience rapidly changing conditions. Power outages and travel disruptions are possible during peak commute hours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

If you must be outside, stay weather-aware and be ready to seek shelter quickly. Severe weather conditions could intensify with little warning.

Storm watches remain in effect through 11 p.m., with additional updates expected as the system progresses eastward.
