Alberta, Virginia – A Lunenburg County man is now facing multiple felony charges after investigators say a domestic dispute escalated into a shooting that left a woman wounded inside her vehicle.
According to Virginia State Police, a special agent served four indictments Wednesday against 44-year-old Charles A. Stokes of Lunenburg following a grand jury decision tied to a February incident. Authorities say Stokes is charged with shooting from a vehicle, shooting or stabbing during the commission of a felony, maliciously shooting at a vehicle, and child abuse with reckless disregard for human life.
The investigation stems from a call around 2:43 p.m. on a Sunday in early February, when deputies were notified that a woman had been shot while inside her vehicle near a residence in Lunenburg County. Officials said the victim managed to drive herself away from the scene before being transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe multiple shots were fired into the vehicle during the incident before the suspect fled. Stokes was taken into custody the following day in Kenbridge and is currently being held without bond at Meherrin River Regional Jail.
The case remains active as it moves through the court system, with authorities indicating additional updates could follow.
