Blacksburg, VA – Strong winds and heavy rain are set to impact Virginia on Wednesday, bringing thunderstorms and a sharp drop in temperatures overnight. Forecasters warn of wind gusts up to 34 mph, with showers starting early in the day. By Wednesday night, colder air moving in behind the system could bring scattered flurries, particularly in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will intensify in the afternoon, with the heaviest rain expected between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Winds will be strong throughout the day, reaching 17 mph and gusting up to 34 mph. Rainfall totals could range between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch, increasing the risk of slick roads and localized flooding.

Wednesday night, the storm system will move east, and colder air will settle in. Temperatures will drop into the low 30s, and scattered flurries or light snow showers could develop, particularly in western Virginia and higher elevations. Although accumulation is unlikely, wet roads could become hazardous as temperatures fall.

Looking ahead, Thursday will start with lingering flurries before skies gradually clear. Highs will reach around 40°F, with breezy conditions continuing. Friday brings sunshine and milder temperatures near 55°F, while the weekend will feature mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. Another chance of rain showers returns Sunday.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, drive cautiously during heavy rain, and prepare for colder conditions Wednesday night. For real-time updates, check local forecasts.
