Charlottesville, VA – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington (KLWX) has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories across Virginia and southern Maryland, warning of accumulating snow and slick travel conditions from early Friday morning through Friday afternoon.
Snow is expected to begin between 1 AM and 4 AM Friday, continuing into the afternoon. The storm is forecast to bring 1 to 3 inches of accumulation for most areas, with localized totals up to 4 inches possible across the higher elevations of Augusta and Highland Counties.
Advisories are in effect for Rockingham, Madison, Rappahannock, Albemarle, Orange, Spotsylvania, King George, Stafford, Fauquier, and the Virginia Blue Ridge, as well as Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties in southern Maryland.
Forecasters warn that temperatures in the 20s will allow snow to accumulate on all untreated surfaces, making roads slippery during the Friday morning commute. As the system exits, light freezing drizzle may follow Friday evening, prolonging hazardous travel.
The NWS urges drivers to slow down and use caution, especially on bridges and shaded roads. Travel updates are available by calling 511 or visiting official state transportation websites.
