Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg warns that a widespread round of snow will move across southwest and central Virginia early Monday morning, creating slick and hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.
Snow is expected to begin between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. west of the Blue Ridge, spreading east after 6 a.m. toward Lynchburg, Danville, and Roanoke. Forecasters expect 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, with locally higher totals possible where heavier snow bands linger, especially along and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Snow will fall steadily through the morning before tapering off during the afternoon. Roads, bridges, and overpasses may become snow-covered and slippery, particularly on untreated or secondary routes.
Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra time, and use caution on Monday morning. Even minor snow accumulations can lead to dangerous conditions during peak commute hours.
