Richmond, Va. – Severe storms are expected to sweep across much of Virginia from late Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, and the potential for isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, strong to severe storms could develop as early as 4 p.m. Thursday and persist until around 2 a.m. Friday. Areas along and west of I-95—including Richmond, Farmville, and Louisa—face the highest risk for egg-size hail, 55–70 mph wind gusts, and quick-developing tornadoes.

Slight risk areas extend across much of central and southeastern Virginia, including Williamsburg, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach. Power outages, tree damage, and dangerous travel conditions are possible tonight. The threat will continue Friday, particularly from late afternoon through the evening, with storms again capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, stay weather aware, and avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours. If possible, charge electronic devices and monitor local alerts for any issued watches or warnings.

Storm warnings remain in effect through early Friday, and additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
