According to the Virginia State Police, the incident began around 9:12 a.m. Tuesday when a brown 1999 Chevy Suburban and a black BMW 5-series sedan were involved in a driving dispute near Route 236. Authorities said the Chevy Suburban may have cut off the BMW as both vehicles traveled south. The vehicles continued driving until both pulled off onto the shoulder near the intersection of Interstates 395, 495, and Route 644. Police said a confrontation took place on the shoulder, where the victim was allegedly shot once.
The suspect is described as an African-American male, standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-6, and was reportedly wearing blue or green work pants and a white t-shirt. After the shooting, the suspect allegedly drove eastbound on Interstate 495, exiting at Van Dorn Street. Police said the suspect’s vehicle also had a young child inside at the time of the incident.
The wounded individual transported himself to a nearby hospital with injuries to his arm and leg. Two teenagers were reportedly riding in the victim’s vehicle during the shooting, but no other injuries were reported.
