Henry County, VA – Authorities in Virginia are investigating a homicide after a 79-year-old man was found dead early Thursday morning on Vista View Lane in Henry County.
According to the Virginia State Police, troopers and deputies responded to reports of an unresponsive male around 1:21 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they found Johnny Carson Carter, 79, of Ridgeway, Virginia, deceased in the roadway.
Initial reports suggested Carter may have been struck by a vehicle. However, following an investigation by the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation-Salem Division, authorities determined Carter’s death was not caused by a vehicle collision but was clearly a homicide.
Investigators indicated the crime likely took place sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 1:20 a.m. Thursday.
Virginia State Police, assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Carter’s death. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward immediately.
