Blacksburg, VA – A stretch of cooler, drier air begins moving into Virginia tonight, bringing a notable drop in temperatures for much of the region. Lows are expected to dip into the mid-50s to mid-60s by early Tuesday morning—up to 10 degrees below seasonal norms.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the cooldown is driven by a strong surface high-pressure system filtering in from the west. Areas across the Blue Ridge and into the New River and Roanoke Valleys could see lows in the low 50s, with slightly warmer conditions along the Southside and Piedmont.

Communities such as Wytheville, Roanoke, and Martinsville should prepare for a brisk start to Tuesday, especially in valleys where colder air tends to settle overnight. The NWS recommends residents consider light jackets or long sleeves if heading out early and to take precautions for temperature-sensitive crops and outdoor pets.

The cooler trend is expected to continue into midweek before temperatures gradually rebound. No watches or warnings are currently in effect, but updated forecasts may follow depending on the persistence of the high-pressure system.
